U3A is a UK-wide collection of 1000+ charities tha

U3A is a UK-wide collection of 1000+ charities that provide the opportunity for those no longer in work to come together and learn for fun. The Marlow & District branch was formed in 2006 and has approximately 700 members and nearly 70 interest groups covering a wide range of educational, recreational and social activities. Annual membership is only £10 and this includes a bi-monthly newsletter and Third Age Trust magazine.
With so many interest groups to choose from, there is something for everyone to join - card making, watercolour art groups, bowls, walking groups, learning a new language, coffee & chat groups, family history, reading groups, wine appreciation, lunch groups, scrabble, rummicub, mah-jong and singing for fun are just some of the interest groups available to join and new groups are being added regularly.
Marlow & District U3A wanted to move away from their old website platform as technical support for it was ending and parts of the site were becoming unusable. They already had a design they liked so it was built to their specification - a simple design with clear navigation and an easy way for potential new members to register their interest. I redesigned and built the new Wordpress website which launched last week. Training was provided to the committee members so that they can manage the website themselves.

I’ve been working on the design and build of a new website for South Bucks Counselling, based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The site launched late last night to minimise disruption to their services.
South Bucks Counselling are a charity mental health service offering affordable counselling to the local community. It is a non-profit service run by volunteer counsellors, practising in the heart of High Wycombe for over 40 years.
Open 51 weeks of the year.
Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm.

I joined Facebook back in 2008 - It was a great way to keep in touch with family & friends and also advertise my web design business.
Over the years, I’ve taken breaks and disabled my account a number of times, after finding myself endlessly scrolling and struggling with productivity. I’ve been careful to delete posts regularly so that there isn’t too much of my history out there for all to see. I understand that once you post photos on the platform, Meta can use them for whatever they choose unless the user objects to this (which has to be done manually in settings).
However, I’ve now finally deleted my account after all these years. It takes 30 days to delete and if you log back in during that time, the deletion process is cancelled. I have another 27 days until it’s gone for good.
The last few years show a real decline in Facebook algorithms and functionality for the user. I am forever bombarded with adverts for middle aged women and barely see any friends updates in my feed anymore. A few months ago, I ordered some clothing by clicking on a Facebook ad and when it finally arrived from God knows where it was so poorly made that it was unusable. 3 days ago, I stupidly clicked on another ad - I agreed to the £1 fee to temporarily use the advertised app but within minutes, 2 further (and much larger) payments were taken from my bank account. Another complete scam as they refuse to refund and I am now trying to get my bank to resolve.
So that was the last straw for me. The irony is that I’m still on Meta owned Instagram but I find it far less intrusive and far less triggering than Facebook. Most of my customers find me through word-of-mouth or Google so I’m no longer concerned on that front either.
So goodbye Facebook! It was fun... for a while!

Braywick Plant Nurseries is a not for profit organisation providing training and work experience for adults with disabilities or in need of support.
Located in Maidenhead, the plant nursery opened in 1997 and it has given support and work experience to more than 1,000 local people.
The original website was well established in Google search results but needed a fresh and responsive design to show their new branding. I designed and built the site in Wordpress and it launched a few days ago.
I would highly recommend visiting the plant nurseries and shop as they have lovely staff and a great range of garden & houseplants and hanging baskets in their garden centre.
